In 2019, the website Maps of the Mind published a practical guide to microdosing with magic truffles, the psilocybin-containing sclerotia that are legal in the Netherlands. These are its main points.
What is a microdose?
A microdose is a small amount, often described as roughly one tenth to one twentieth of a normal dose, meant to be barely noticeable. The guide stresses that people react differently and that it makes sense to start low. Always follow the instructions that come with your product.
Common schedules
- Fadiman protocol: one day on, two days off.
- Stamets stack: five days on, two days off.
- Every other day: one day on, one day off.
Breaks between doses help you notice what changes and keep tolerance from building up.
Practical tips from the guide
- Keep a journal so you can compare days with and without a microdose.
- Fresh truffles spoil quickly. Keep them in the fridge, or dry them and store them with a silica gel packet.
- Some people find that caffeine on the same day makes them more restless.
Reported experiences
Users describe a better mood, more creativity or focus, but also anxiety or distraction on some days. These are personal reports, not proven effects. Controlled studies have so far found that expectations play a large role (see our article on what microdosing is).
